The German giants, one of the Bundesliga’s most historic clubs with a huge and passionate
fan base, will open their own official supporters’ graveyard next month.Called the Schalke Fan
Field.
It is situated in an especially-allocated part of a cemetery due to be completed this
month, just 500 yards from the Veltins Arena where Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal play a crunch
match tomorrow.
Schalke’s site will have the space for 1904 graves of life-long supporters — to commemorate
the year the club was founded.
Each tomb will cost around £1,000 to reserve and £100 for annual upkeep.
The full cost to keep a grave for 25 years is quoted at around £4,200. That includes a “line or
urn” grave in the Schalke Fans Square although funeral costs are on top.
